Azithromycin capsules should be given as a single daily dose. In common with many other antibiotics Azithromycin Capsules should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food. ZITHROMAX® (azithromycin) Tablets and Oral Suspension. DESCRIPTION. ZITHROMAX (azithromycin tablets and oral suspension) contains the active ingredient azithromycin, a macrolide antibacterial drug , for oral administration. 1,000 mg PO once daily for 7 days. Clinical practice guidelines recommend clarithromycin as a monotherapy option in previously healthy outpatients with no risk factors for drug-resistant S. pneumoniae and without therapy in the preceding 3 months. Adults. In uncomplicated Chlamydia trachomatis urethritis and cervicitis, the dose is 1,000 mg in one single oral dose. For all other indications the dose is 1,500 mg, to be administered as 500 mg per day for three consecutive days. For treating most types of common bacterial infections, the recommended dosage of azithromycin is 250 mg or 500 mg once daily for three to five days. Patients weighing above 25.0 kg in the 3-day study or 41.7 kg in the 5-day 500 mg PO on first day of therapy, followed by 250 mg PO once daily on days 2 to 5.
